Shows and swap meets keep interest high

To paraphrase a popular comedian, “You might be a tractor guy if…” springtime puts a wild gleam in your eye because the next few months means antique tractor shows, parades, demonstrations, and swap meets. From the rhythmic pocketa-pocketa-pocketa of small farm engines, to the roar of a thrilling tractor pull and the chuff of massive steam engines, it’s all music to a tractor guy’s ears.

When restoring old farm equipment, no other source of information comes close. Antique farm equipment enthusiasts flock to these events to investigate, debate, evaluate, negotiate—and sometimes brag about—all things mechanical, old, and farm-related.

One of the best small shows is in Pawnee, Okla. where the Oklahoma Steam Threshing & Gas Engine Association holds its annual show the first weekend in May. This is the organization’s 50th Anniversary show, promising to be one of the most exciting. In addition to steam and antique tractor displays and demonstrations, the group is planning on special activities highlighting 1966—the year of their first show.
