Great grilling ideas from Lehman’s

Who doesn’t love an old-fashioned barbecue? Outdoor cooking is as American as apple pie

Whether you live in the country or are grilling on your apartment patio, cooking outside connects us all with the great American outdoors. And the taste of grilled food is out of this world.

TIP: Start your grill about 20 minutes before you plan to use it. Get the temperature up to around 500 degrees. This will burn off any bacteria or food reside.

Although nothing beats a grilled hot dog or burger, grilling has advanced far beyond those outdoor staples. You can cook anything you would in your kitchen on your grill. Breakfast, lunch, dinner – you and your grill can do it all. Beyond meats, you can ‘cue up an assortment of tasty veggies and delicious desserts, even fruit.

TIP: Hard fruits, like mangos and pears, cook up nicely on the grill. You can also make a plate full of s’mores on a cookie sheet.

Cast iron pots and pans add flavor to your food cooked on the grill. Cast iron pots have been in use since the 18th century. Thanks to the amazing characteristics of cast iron and the special structure of the surface, warmth is efficiently stored and distributed.

TIP: Don’t put your cast iron in the dishwasher. You can use a bit of water and a towel to wipe out food reside. Dry your pan thoroughly and rub in a light layer of cooking oil.

If you are grilling steak, chicken or pork, experiment with different rubs and spices, perhaps even creating your own unique version. Rub the mix into the meat with your fingers, and don’t forget the sides.

TIP: The classic rub is Kosher Salt, coarse ground black pepper and granulated garlic (not garlic powder).
