Boasting a lot of power in a compact package, compact utility tractors help property owners complete their jobs on acreages. When purchasing a new compact tractor, it is important to consider a few key factors: “You need to look at your needs and the type of property you are working on,” says Jon Schebler, product marketing manager, compact utility tractors, John Deere.

“Consider your needs, which will help you choose the right horsepower and hitch life capacity for the tasks you are tackling on a daily basis. Depending on your property size and type, you may need a specific type of compact utility tractor.”

Additionally, look at the tasks you are hoping to tackle on a frequent basis, and consider wrapping in attachments when you purchase a machine. From mid-mount mowers to backhoes and loaders, as well as specialty attachments such as snow brooms and throwers, manufacturers offer a variety of options that can transform your machine.

Power, size, accessories, and attachments—it’s no wonder the compact tractor segment continues to be the hottest and most competitive out there.

NEW HOLLAND Workmaster 25

New Holland says the Workmaster 25 is the perfect choice for first-time compact tractor buyers or previous compact owners looking for a more capable solution. Available with a choice of a 12x12 gear or 3-range hydrostatic transmission, the Workmaster 25’s many attachments and implements offer a lot of performance and capability. Built on a heavy-duty backbone with heavy castings for the engine, transmission, and rear axles, this model features an easy-to-understand instrument cluster and comfortable work space.

KIOTI CK10SE Series

Kioti’s CK10SE Series now offers six models with either a 35 or 40 horsepower three-cylinder water-cooled Daedong diesel engine. The CK10SE has manual and hydrostatic ROPs models and hydrostatic cab model options. Standard features in this line include hydraulic power steering, telescopic lower link and stabilizers, and dual remote hydraulic valves. HST models boast standard cruise control and a linked pedal for simplified tractor operation during utility and loader applications. Cab models feature a factory-installed cabin with heat and A/C for a comfortable operating environment throughout the year.

KUBOTA Grand L60 Series

At the higher end of the compact tractor range—horsepower ranges from 37 to more than 60—Kubota’s Grand L60 Series bring luxury and productivity to this class of tractor. The six models have a choice of five engines and three transmission options. A wide range of available attachments, from mowers and snowblowers to backhoes and loaders, is available. Styling tweaks, including a deluxe cab and intuitive computer controls enhance operator comfort and ease of use. Kubota also has one-button adjustments for their HST PLUS transmission to suit operator preference.

STEINER Model 450

Powered by a high-horsepower gasoline engine, Steiner’s more powerful model offers Steiner’s unique articulating and oscillating frame—bringing exceptional performance and versatility, particularly on steep, uneven, or rolling terrain. BRANSON 10 Series

Branson Tractor’s newest addition to their impressive lineup of 34 tractor models is the 10 Series. The 2510R and 2510H tractors fill the gap between the 00 series and 15 series models, making them a step above subcompact size. These tractors have 25 horsepower and are available with either manual or Hydro-max hydrostatic transmissions—the Hydro-max is a synchronized auto-acceleration system when changing direction. These maneuverable models have a low profile 88 inches height at the top of the ROPS but still offer 13 inches ground clearance.

YANMAR YT-347

Sporting the first factory-installed cabs offered on North American Yanmar tractors when introduced in 2016, Yanmar’s YT3 Series tractors feature an ergonomic operator station, heating and air conditioning, cruise control, and a host of comfort items. Open cab models are also available. The Model YT347 is powered by a 46.6 hp Yanmar engine and is the first tractor to offer a new, more advanced hydro-mechanical HMT transmission (i-HMT) brining ease-of-use and infinite speed choice of traditional hydrostatic transmissions but with mechanical efficiency and durability of a gear transmission. Massey Ferguson’s no-nonsense workhorse 1700E series comprise three 4WD models ranging from range from 25 to 38.5 hp. All feature an open station operator platform with handy-to-reach, easy-to-use mechanical controls for most functions. Power is from three-cylinder fuel-injected diesel engines with electronic engine management; transmission choice is a mechanical 9x3 transmission (great for mowing and hauling) or a 3-range hydrostatic (HST) transmission (ideal for loader work).
